Cursed
Over the weekend on March 6 2006, since The Phantom of the Opera quit playing, I had to decide on another movie to see. I chose Cursed, which I watched at 6:50pm at the Cinema 10 in Coral Ridge Mall.
I had low expectations for the movie, wondering if I would feel Cursed having to sit through it. Yes, we all try to be non-judgmental before going to see something, but really when I'd seen no previews for it, no-one really famous is in it (unless you count Scott Baio with a cameo appearance as really famous), and the movie is already reduced for playing times after a week playing here, these aren't good signs for stardom. I was, however, surprised.
Yes, the film is cheesy. Yes, it is a B movie. Yes, it isn't going to win any awards. But, I enjoyed it, I really did. In its campy and non-pretentious fashion, the film was a fun ride into the life of becoming a werewolf or not becoming one. Christina Ricci is good as Ellie. This is an actress I've enjoyed seeing in films since the decidedly off-the-wall Buffalo '66 movie. Ellie's brother is played by Jesse Eisenberg, who is certainly not an attractive teenager, so the transformation of him into a sexual magnet at one point is all the more hilarious.
There are other good roles by Judy Greer playing Joanie as a mean-spirited publicist and Joshua Jackson (Jake) as Eliie's love interest.
In comparison to the depressing, dead and dreadful Boogeyman seen a month ago, Cursed was an enjoyable 1.5 hours to watch. If you have that time to kill and like cheesy horror flicks, I recommend this one.
Out of the ratings available, this movie gets a good. Why it is good? I enjoyed it and I would even be willing to laugh through it again, so it was slighlty beyond decent and I have to give it the goods.
